Whispering Candles

I found myself in a dark room. The only source of light in the room was from the window in front of me. I looked to my right and I saw a girl. She couldn’t have been older than me. Her face was illuminated by the phone she was using, her features were soft and beautiful.

Right beside her were three candles, each emitting a ghostly blue light. I glanced at my side and saw three candles, similar to those of the girl’s. One of the candles suddenly lit up, its blue light licking at the air, and I could hear it whispering. Its whispers grew louder as it attempted to spread to the other candles.

I felt a sudden fear inside me and I tried to blow out the candle. Its whispers grew angrier and I stopped at once. The girl turned to look at me and said, “You need to control it”. For some unknown reason, I knew what she meant.

I looked at the candle again and its whispers softened. I looked at the girl again. She was still watching something on her phone. The candles beside her seemed to be whispering among themselves. As I turned to look at my candle again, I saw that it attempted to light the others. It shied away and returned to its incomprehensible whispering.
