Santa Claus Comes At 3 AM

I was about 7 or 8 years old. Maybe a bit younger. I was staying at my rich grandparents house. They hit us and yelled at us so I didn’t like it much, but I was forced to go by my dad who wanted me to have a normal type family. Thanks dad.

I was sheltered kid, not allowed to watch anything but G and PG shows and didn’t have a lot of friends at school. I had and have behaviour issues, due to mental issues that we are still trying to figure out. (I’m going through testing!) It was Christmas eve. I was laying in the “princess room” (which just means the little kids’ bedroom) with my baby sister at the time in her crib and my younger sister beside me in this large queen bed with 5,000 blankets on it. It was winter after all.

So I usually never wake up in the middle of the night, I usually sleep fine and sound. But tonight, that wasn’t the case. I woke up at 3 AM sharp, to some noise or movement in the room. It was about 30°F outside, and for some reason my sister decided to yank all the blankets away, leaving my skin ice-cold. I slowly pulled the blankets on, as to not wake her up. But I figure out what woke me up within a few seconds after doing that. It was a toy.

I sat up with my body half covered in the quilts, tuning in to my surroundings. I faintly hear the noise of a toy burner (you know those toy stoves and ovens that make noise when you do a certain action? Yeah. Those). I heard the pan that you scoot on the “skillet” slam on the “burner” and start sliding back and forth like you were sautéing veggies. I get a little freaked out but I’m thinking, “It must just be Caroline (my younger sister, not the baby) out playing when she isn’t allowed to.” But I look to my side, there Caroline is, snoring lightly in her deep sleep with her wolf stuffed animal beside her (she loves those). So, I thought, “Maybe Mikaela (my Aunt, who is only 2 years older than me) might be out of her room playing.” Now see that theory can’t be correct. Because Mikaela lost her hearing when she was 2 months old, so there would be no reason for her to do that since she can’t hear it. Another thing was that they kept her door locked at night from the outside, so she couldn’t get out anyway.

I thought, “This is scary. I need to get NeeNee (grandma) or Poppy (grandpa).” I sit there for a few minutes to gain the courage, then as soon as I start to slip out of the blankets and onto the floor, I see a figure in front of the door. I pause and slowly pull my leg back up, looking silently at it.

It was about 6’3, skinny yet muscular. It couldn’t possibly be my Poppy, because he is a very heavy guy. And it couldn’t be my NeeNee, she’s only 5’2 and a bigger type girl with huge hips and a tiny waist. It couldn’t be her. So I thought, “Who… are you?” and I didn’t say it out loud. As soon as I thought that, IT cocked its head to the side as if someone who didn’t hear what you said what asking, “What?” I widen my eyes, and simply stare where its eyes would normally be. We both stay frozen in each others gaze for maybe 2 minutes or so, before my mind goes absolutely blank. My mind and ears filled with static. Like I was a mindless drone obeying its creator, I slowly pulled the blankets up on me, layed back down and shut my eyes. A few minutes later I snapped back into this realm, shot up and looked at the door. It was gone.

The next day I didn’t talk to anyone about it, and only a few of my closest friends know this story. Ever since then I have had problems of waking up at 3 AM.
