The Shadowman by Dustin R. Hill

It all started one stormy night. My mom was reading me a scary book called Shadowman. Every time she would read it, I would always hide under my blankets, and prayed to God that it’s just fiction.

“Beware of the Shadowman, for he is darker than pitch black in a starless sky, and whose eyes were the beacons of Hell. And if you walk out, in the middle of the night, he’ll get you, and drag you down as well.” My mom read. I shivered, and begged my mom to stop reading that book. My mom looked at me, and I could see the expression on her face.

“Shadowman isn’t real, my love. He’s just a myth. Now, shut your eyes, and go to sleep.” My mom said, then, she went out of my room. I glanced at the clock, it was 12am. I suddenly had this creepy vibe about Shadowman. I would picture him all black, with glowing white eyes. The image stayed in my head, as I drift off to sleep. Hours later, I felt pressure my bed. Oh God, I can’t believe this. On the other side of the bed, was a tall dark figure with glowing white eyes. I tried to scream, but no sound came out. I was paralyzed from head to toe. Everyone calls it Sleep Paralysis, and now I know why. The figure moved to the side of my bed, and breathed down my neck. I tried to move, but the force pinned me down. There was no way I could get out of this paralysis alive. The figure then moves to where my head is, and looks down at me. In my mind, I was praying to God, but no sound came in. The Shadowman laughed.

“You are a fool to pray, young one. No one can escape my wrath.” The Shadowman said, in a echoey voice. I couldn’t cry for mom to come in and save me.

“Time to go to Hell.” Shadowman said. And then, I saw a portal, with flames coming out of it. The bed moves towards the Hell portal, and I couldn’t do anything. Suddenly, a ball of light flashed through my eyes, and I saw an Angel. She was battling the Shadowman, in order for me to escape the paralysis. The Angel kicks the Shadowman into the Hell portal, and he screams at the top of his lungs as he fell. The portal then closes, and the Angel whispered to me:

“It’s Ok love, God has sent me down here to get rid of Shadowman. Awaken, for the paralysis is at an end.” I nodded, and ran to tell mom what happened. As I did so, the light vanishes completely.

“I’m so sorry, I wish I haven’t read you that book. It was all my fault.” She exclaimed, in tears. I gave my mom a hug, and slept in her room until morning. And until this day, there was no more Shadowman to torture me in my dreams. He’ll never come back, right?
