Nightshift – Part 2

I’ve been at this crazy mans house for forever it seems. I can’t wrap my head around what’s going on.

“Mira?” he says as he’s watching me.

“Yes?” I have nothing else to say or do but comply.

“You’ve been here for two months now, don’t you think it is about time we got engaged at least?”

“I-I guess so,” if there is to be some sort of wedding, that would be the perfect chance to run.

“Yes, I do think so too. That is why I bought you this.”

He hands me a little ring box, I open it to see a beautiful blue sapphire surrounded in fire topaz. It’s the most beautiful ring I have ever laid my eyes on.

I can’t let the ring distract me from what he’s done. I know there are people out there looking for me, I listen to the radio all day, the only glimpse of the outside world I get to see.

He’s already left the room, he left when he handed the ring box to me. He thought I wasn’t paying attention but I was. I watch every single movement he makes when he’s in the same room.

It’s dinner time, Brian planned a special dinner tonight. He’s going to finally let me out of this basement and eat in his dining room. I don’t know what to expect. I doubt he will let me have any possible chance of running away.

“Mira! Are you decent? Did you put on your dress?!” he yells from the basement door.

“Yes I did,” I holler back.

“You can come up here now, you will be watched the whole time. I may not have eyes in the back of my head but I always have eyes on the back of yours.”

That creeped me out. I know he’s got cameras everywhere, he is always watching me with his piercing eyes.

I’m at the table, he’s prepared one hell of a feast. Exquisite steaks, loaded mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, deviled eggs, salads, a bit of everything. The aroma of scents is delightful, but he’s taken precautions to what I might do. The chair I’m sitting in is built into the floor, and my ankles are cuffed to the chair.

“Hello, honey,” he says in a delighted voice.

I have nothing to say, I don’t know what to say. He’s so demanding. He always wants a “yes sir” out of me but I’m frozen, this is the first time I’ve had fresh air. Well, fresher than down in that basement. He’s covered all the windows, I can’t see outside. Not a single glimpse of sunlight. I want to be free so bad.

“Mira?” he says, concerned.

I don’t get out of my daze.

“MIRA!” he yells.

“What? What? Did I do something wrong? What did I do?” I say, terrified.

“I’ve been watching you sit there staring at your food for a little while. I tried to get you out of it but you were so out of it that I had to raise my voice.”

“I-I’m sorry, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” I know exactly what’s wrong. I can’t take this anymore.

“Well, be sure to eat honey, you must be starved.”

That made me mad, if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t be starved. I would be at my house happy and content.

“Sure, I’ll eat.”

“Thank you.”

That’s the first time he’s said “thank you” to me for anything.

It’s time to go back to the basement, I beg him not to put me back in there.

“Please! I don’t want to feel suffocated in that basement again. I’ll stay in your sight at all times! I promise! Just don’t put me back in there!”

He doesn’t listen until I start bawling my eyes out.

“Fine, but you will be in the same room as me this whole time, if you try anything I will put you in the basement and tie you up as well, do you understand me?”

“Yes, I do”

He walks me around his house for a little while, showing me where the bathroom is and other rooms. There are two rooms he tells me to never go into. The way the house is laid out is pretty simple. You go in the front door to be between the kitchen on the left and living room to the right, looking straight ahead is a hallway, first door on the right is the bathroom, then the laundry room to the left of it. The left side of the hall is the two doors he told me not to open, side by side. And looking straight into the hall is his room. The door to the basement is in the living room. The house is modern, all the walls are white, and white carpet on all the floors except the kitchen, it’s covered in blue and white checker board style tiles.

It’s the next day, he let me sleep in his room, only catch was that he locked me in by myself. I’m going to guess he slept on the couch. I got to see what’s outside his windows, but I couldn’t open or break through them since he has security locks that go off if it’s opened and the only way around that is to break it but they’re made from bullet proof glass. He made sure he knew what he was doing. He always does. It’s about time I tried to get ahead of him in this game.
