Emily the Shattered Soul

Before I begin, let me tell you this is a TRUE story. Some names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Emily is a spirit that talks to me sometimes. She died around twenty or so years ago. When I asked her how she died, this is the story she gave me.

“Well, I have to start from the beginning. When I was about five or maybe six and my sister Melody was three or four, my mother came into our playroom and hugged us goodbye for the last time. She said she was going away for a long time. We were young and didn’t understand what it meant.

About three years later, my father delved into a great depression and began to drink.

He was a violent drunk. He beat me a lot. He never beat Melody. I made sure of that.

There had been a lot of times when Melody and would sit in our shared room after dad had passed out and talk about how scared we were.

After a while he married a woman named Katherine. She was beautiful, smart, patient, you know, the total package! But she practiced black magic.

When I was around sixteen, Melody fifteen, I got a bad fever that had me bedridden. Melody went to school while I stayed home.

I remember waking up to Katherine sitting beside my bed and smiling in a really creepy way.

She told me she could cure me. She had me follow her to the basement.

In the basement, there was a circle drawn on the floor in what I can only hope was red paint. Now that I think back to it, I think it might have been a satanic circle of some sort. There were a lot of candles, red and black, and the room was really dark. Only lit by the candles.

She had me stand in the center of the circle. Then she started reading strange words from a big book.

I remember feeling pain all over. My dad was standing on the staircase, drunk as ever, and I remember yelling at him, begging him to make her stop. I was in too much pain to move. I felt paralyzed.

She started reading louder and the house started shaking. Or it could have just been me shaking.

I felt a sudden sharp pain and my body fell forward as I felt a sharp wind go through me, tearing me apart. I almost didn’t realize it when I was dead.

My dad rushed over to me, knocking Katherine over in the process. I remember I started relying at him as he cried over my body. Though it didn’t seem like he could see me, Katherine sure could.

She shouted something in a language I couldn’t understand. I felt another gush of wind and I closed my eyes, feeling them tear up.

When I opened them again, I was in a snowy forest.

I don’t remember much else after that. But that’s my story.”

She keeps asking me about her little sister but I don’t know how to help her. I really wish I could though.
