Wing 4

The sun had already set when I began my shift at one of the more luxurious hotels in the property. I work security, meaning my shifts were never on a set location and this was the first time I was placed at the hotel. Working at the resort, I have heard stories that the Grand was haunted but always thought the stories were merely tales created to scare new hires so I never paid much attention to it.

Working hotels meant doing security checks 3 times per shift. You check hallways, staircases, unlocked rooms and common areas. The checks are usually done alone since is a fairly easy task that doesn’t require backup. I started my shift at 2300 meaning my walkthroughs will roughly be around 2330, 0300 and 0630. My first security check gave me no problems but the 2nd one was a different story.

I checked my phone midshift, 0304 time to break away from the other two officers working to do walkthroughs. There were 5 wings split among the 3 of us. Wing 1 and 3 to one, 2 and 4 to me and 5 to the other. Being a bubbly person, I made a quick joke to the other two and made my way toward the elevator that leads me to the top of wing 4. As the elevator opened at my destination, I noticed a sudden change in the temperature. “Maybe it’s the height difference,” I told myself to find an answer to the noticeable temperature drop. I continued my walkthrough. Steady pace, arms crossed to keep me warm, growing more and more uncomfortable as I walk through the dimly lit hallway. It somewhat gave me a disturbing feeling but I kept walking. “This hotel is only 11 years old,” I thought, “It doesn’t have that long dark history most haunted places do. I’m just over reacting.”

I was almost at the end of walking through wing 4 when the lights started to flicker. At this point, I was freaking out. My steady walk turned into a brisk walk, almost a run heading back to the elevator. As I got closer to the doors, I was stopped midstep by an eerie figure standing right in front of me. It looked like a man but only his outline, no features, no face, no details. Kind of like when you go invisible in a video game. I couldn’t move. I felt his presence towering over me. Just watching me. I then snapped back to reality and ran straight for the elevator. Smashing the button hoping it would make it come faster. “Why is this stupid elevator taking forever? It’s never taken this long!” Panicking and still smashing the button like a madman, I heard a “ding” and the elevator opened. I hurried in and waited for the elevator to close looking down hoping the figure wouldn’t follow me in.

I met up with the others in the lobby and told them what had just happened. They didn’t seem to believe me and I didn’t really care. It wasn’t till some lady from house keeping experienced the same thing and word got out did they start to believe.

I still work the resort but avoided wing 4 since.
