The Mystery Man – Part 1

I don’t know where he came from, I don’t know why he came. But he chose me, for some reason he chose me. To this day I still ask myself why, I’m not special.

He first appeared to me in a dream, he stood at about 5 feet 2 inches, had curly hair and had only one eye. When he spoke, it wasn’t a deep manly voice, it sounded that of a child. You know the one high-pitched and squeaky. He just stood there staring at me, watching my every move. He spoke one word, that word to this day sends shivers down my spine. That word was “death”, that was it, he then disappeared into thin air with not a single explanation as to what he meant by that. Boy it was a doozy when I did find out, I never expected to find out the way I did.

This is how I found out, one morning I woke up to the sound of silence. Not a single noise to be heard around the house. This was unusual, with four boys under the same roof, it’s constant chaos. I pulled myself out of bed, crept carefully around to see why. None of my brothers were in bed, my mum wasn’t in bed either. I went downstairs, slowly opening the living room door. That’s where I saw, I saw why he said death, I couldn’t speak. My family was dead, slaughtered like animals. This isn’t what was meant to happen. It was only a dream, I swear it was.

My entire body froze, I couldn’t move or take my eyes off of the horrific sight that was before me. Why did this happen? What caused this? I had so many questions, that I needed answers to. I was determined to find out, even if it killed me.

So I started my journey to finding out why, what’s the worst that could happen? I die. God it would be a relief to die, at least this s**t would be over, but if I could reverse this then I will. I needed to find this guy, he was at the root of it all. I ran to the nearest library, maybe the answer lies in a book. As soon as I got there, I felt the urge to go towards this particular book. It was untitled with only one word on it, that word still echos in my mind. The word was ‘Death’, as though it was taunting me. I picked up this book, as soon as I did all the hairs on my arms stood up, static built in the air. I could feel someone watching me, yet when I looked around there was no one. I was exhausted so thought maybe I was just imagining it. I sat at a table, I must’ve fallen asleep.
