School Day

My name is Jack Langson, I am 15 years old and this is my story.

My daily life isn’t exactly thrilling to say the least, the basic: wake up, get ready, go to school, blah, blah, blah, sleep. It was just another average day in my long and lonely life. I woke up tired and when I finally got out of bed, I managed to get dressed. I was lacing up my vans when my mom walked in my room and said, “Don’t forget, you have a history test today.” I sighed with disappointment in myself for forgetting about it.

When I went outside, it was brisk and snowy. I hopped in the car and the cold leather seat hit me like I just sat on a pile of snow. The ride to school was as it always is, calm and quiet passing a few farms and houses on the way. When we rolled up in the parking lot, I got out of the car with the same sluggish movement that I always have in the morning.

I walked into the small school house and went upstairs to my classroom just like ever other day. But today something was different. I didn’t hear anyone chatting and walking across the creaky wooden floor. I was confused as I walked into my classroom hoping to find some people waiting there, but there was no one.

So I looked all around the school and still no one anywhere. I sat down at my desk and began to think, “Did they cancel for the day and not call to tell me? Maybe everybody is sick?” Nothing made any sense, so instead of sitting around, I was going to go to the near town and see if anyone there could help me. As I was walking down the stairs, something caused me to slip and I tumbled down hitting my head more than once. When I reached the bottom of the long flight of stairs, I blacked out.

I woke up in a hospital bed. As soon as I was awake, a nurse walked in. She was short and skinny with brown hair but the first thing I noticed about her were her eyes. They were dark, almost black. She came up to me and asked, “How are you doing today?”

“I’m doing ok, I guess,” I replied in a confused tone. Then she tore open a towlette and wiped off a spot on my arm. Confused I asked, “Wha… What’s that for?” She said it was just a flu shot and to relax and not tense up. She then pulled out a syringe and put the needle to my arm. I felt the pressure of her pumping fluid into my vein. When she was done, she left and shortly after that I fell asleep.

I woke up back in my room, immediately thinking, “It must have all been a dream,” and sighed with relief. Once again I got out of bed and got dressed and was on my way to school. When I got there, my teachers and fellow students were all there. Relief flowed over my like a wave at the beach. I was greeted by my friends and sat at my desk. I began copying the teacher’s notes off the chalk board. When I was finished with the notes I asked my teacher if I could use the restroom. He replied with the usual, “Sure but don’t take too long.” I headed down stairs to restroom and as I was washing my hands I blacked out again.

I awoke to a loud BANG! and when I opened my eyes… I seen my friend on the floor. Red fluid draining from the back of his head. “WHAT JUST HAPPENED!” I shouted, then my heart sank as I looked down. I… I was holding a gun… and it hit me, somehow I was the one who pulled the trigger.
