Thing in the Corner

My name is Jonathan, and I’m an only child. I live with my mom. My dad has sadly been lost to a fatal car accident. It all started when we moved from the big city to a small town. The house we moved into was just a little ranch style house about five miles from the town. everything was going great. I was in school again, it’s my senior year. It’s a pretty nice town. For the most part people are really nice around here.

Then I noticed something was out of place one night. We have been living there for a month now. Nothing was out of order, well up until that night. In the corner of the room I could make out a figure. It head was long and thin, its jaw opening up to its waist. Its arms long and hands with long pointed fingers. its legs long and bent in the wrong direction with no toes. The skin was a sandy grey color. It just stared at me with glowing green eyes. Waiting for something to happen, but nothing. It stood perfectly still watching. I closed my eyes for about ten seconds, and when I opened them; nothing. I thought maybe I was hallucinating, so I brushed it off my shoulders and went to bed. Upon waking the next day; I felt a little more fatigue than normal. I had told my mother what had happened that night. She didn’t believe me; she told me I have a wild imagination.

The next few days were normal, but on the fourth day it was back. It would show up every few days, but it never did anything; it would just stand in the corner and watch. I got cold chills down my spine every time I saw it. It didn’t scare me, but only strike my curiosity. I was always tired the next day after seeing it. My mom put me on sleeping pills, but that didn’t really seem to help much. She started to think there was something going on in school and that I was hiding it. She said to just push through; that things would get better. That helped me sleep a little bit better; even though that wasn’t the problem. I couldn’t tell you how it helped but it just did.

At this point it was an every night occurrence. Even though I got plenty of sleep; I still woke up extremely tired. I could hardly stay awake anymore; falling asleep in all my classes. I starting going to counseling; as my mom and teachers requested that I did. They thought I might be on drugs or suggest that I was experiencing ptsd. Given I had no traumatizing experiences they thought I wasn’t telling them something that had happened. By the next week I had given up on counseling for it wasn’t doing a help. I tried to ignore it that next week, but it wasn’t easy to do. I was ever so slightly growing more tired with each day.

The following week was a little bit different. It was still there but it had starting whispering. I couldn’t make out what it was saying. This made my nerves tingle, my blood rush from my face, and my hair on the back of my neck stand up accompanied by goosebumps covering the entirety of my body. I was stiff as a board; not able to move. It never approached me, well not yet at least. The thing would stand in the corner and just whisper; still having no clue what it was saying. Now not only was I waking up tired, but I was growing weaker and losing weight as well. I had started completely losing my sanity. My mom worried; emitted me into a mental hospital.

I was in the hospital for five long days. They brought me back to good health. They fed me well; pretty much ate like a king. They were trying so hard to find something wrong with me; but couldn’t. After they discovered that I was perfectly normal they sent me home. The first night was a fairly normal night. The next night though; the absolute worst happened. I was awoken to see this thing hovering right over me. It leaned in and said “ your life gives me life”. This petcherfid me; my skin went ice cold and started crawling; every bone in my body shaking.

The next day I told my mom what had happened; of course she didn’t believe me. She told me I need to stop making things up; that she was getting tired of my s**t. But what was about to happen that night would change her view on the whole situation. I went to bed that night too scared to fall asleep; I was finally able to fall asleep when nothing happened. Shortly after dozing off, I awoke to something. Not from the thing in the corner, but rather from the blood curdling, bone chilling scream of my mother. I ran into her room to see the thing standing in her corner. We got out as quick as possible and stayed the night in a hotel. She apologized for not believing me and made the decision to move.

To this day I’m still not sure what that thing was, but I know I will never go back to that nightmare of a house.

Very good writing, had it’s loosenes at the start, the end was way too rushed, of course, this gives an realism to the story but it was pretty good in general, I think it deserves a part 2, 8.9/10

    Make a part 2

The writing is mediocre at best and the story is rushed. Description of the “thing” seemed lazy and plain. Not drawed into story, felt like stopping by the middle of it.
