I awoke sitting in a dining chair in a place I didn’t recognize. My head pounded and my body ached. I looked around the unfamiliar surroundings. This was definitely not my penthouse apartment. From what I could tell I was in some sort of burnt down manor. The walls, floor and ceiling were covered in scorch marks. The floor was decorated in some kind of pentagrams.
I reached for my pocket to get my phone but found I was shackled to the chair I was in. I struggled against my bonds in a blind panic. The floorboards behind me creaked, someone or something was coming. A hand clasped painfully around my shoulder. I howled with pain and the hand withdrew. “Sorry I forget my own strength sometimes,” a voice chuckled.
A young man in a leather jacket stepped into view. His movements were swift and prowling like a predator stalking it’s prey. He was tall and well-built. His hair was black as coal but his eyes were what drew me in. They were the darkest shade of green I had ever seen. I felt an unease looking into those eyes they looked hungry. He looked to be in his early twenties but he felt much older somehow. If I could I would have cowered away from him out of an unknown sense of instinctual fear.
“Wh..w….who a… are you,” I stuttered terrified. “Oh I go by many names Want, Hunger, Need, Madman, Psychopath but you may call me by my true name Greed.” Greed smiled at him. For a second I thought I saw fangs but it must have been a trick of the light. “Now look if you let me go you can be a very rich man.” Greed laughed, “Oh I don’t care about money. No I’m much more interested in your misdeeds.”
“My what?” “Oh you know your Sins you see I know everything you’ve done to get to where you are and I intend to make sure you pay for it.” Greed reached behind him and took out a revolver. He pointed it at me, “Do you know what the definition of insanity is?” Greed asked waving the gun around playfully. “What?” I asked my voice failing me making me sound weak and scared. “You see people call me insane all the time.” Greed explained. “See I don’t understand what they mean by that because their understanding of it makes no sense. So tell me what is the definition of insanity?”
I racked my brain for an answer, “Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results,” I spluttered. Greed nodded, “Most say that let’s see if you right.” Greed emptied the bullets out of his revolver and let all but one fall. He loaded one of the Chambers with the round and spun it. He pointed the gun back at me. “Do you know what the definition of insanity is?” Greed asked pointing the gun at me.
“I… I don’t understand.” “Answer the question,” Greed snarled. “Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.” “Exactly,” Greed said happily. He placed the barrel of the gun against his head and fired the gun clicked. “Aw well better luck next time,” Greed said smiling sinisterly.
He pointed the gun back at me, “Do you know what the definition of insanity is?” Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results,” I replied. Greed once again put the gun against his head and pulled the trigger. A soft click sounded from the gun. “I guess third time’s the charm,” Greed chuckled. He pointed the gun back at me.
“Do you know what the definition of insanity is?” Greed repeated again. This guy is a psycho I thought. “Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.” Greed pushed the gun against his head and fired. The gun clicked once more. “Wow I’m lucky,” Greed laughed. “Let’s try that again.”
Greed took aim at me yet again. “What’s the definition of insanity?” “Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results,” I repeated terrified. Greed placed the gun against his head and pulled the trigger. A gunshot echoed through the manor. The bullet ripped through Greeds skull splattering his brains onto the floor. Greed collapsed to the ground a steady trickle of blood flowed through a bullet holes through the side of his head.
His smile was still plastered to his face. I turned away horrified. I felt sick I thought I was going to be sick. I had to get out of here. I struggled against my bonds once more but it wouldn’t budge. Maybe Greed had a knife on him.
I looked back to his body and realized it was gone. Even his bits of brain was gone. A small patch of blood was all that remained. I watched in shock as the blood dissolved leaving only a slight trail of steam. “You see it doesn’t make sense does it,” Greed said from behind him. No that was impossible. Greed stepped back into view.
“Would you hurry up already I’m trying to sleep!” a feminine voice shouted from upstairs. Greed rolled his eyes, “Siblings are so annoying am I right.” I stayed inhumanely still frozen in shock. “Well done to business then,” Greed sighed. His hand wrapped around my throat and ripped a chunk of it off.
I gagged as I choked on my own blood as I struggled for air. Greed dropped the chunk of flesh and licked the blood of his hands with a forked tongue. Everything faded to black.
